Cupcakes, Southwest Style

At a birthday party this weekend, the snacks table had several cupcakes, some crackers, veggies, and a big bowl of guacamole. I commented that cupcakes with guacamole would be good. We decided such cupcakes should be cornbread with chillies inside.

In your opinion, should cornbread be sweet or savory?

When you look for cornbread reviews online, some people get upset by the savory cornbread which I find to be "real" cornbread as opposed to corn muffins or corn cakes.

I think it's a regional thing. Southern cornbread is salty and crumbly, New England cornbread is sweet and sticky.

It should taste like solid atol de elote.

Sweet and savory are both good, depending on what else is/has being/been eaten. The biggest key is not being too dry.
