A Couple Things (for large values of two)
8th-Apr-2003 02:30 am
Trevor baby stare
No one said it would be easy
Did anyone tell you the road would be straight and long
Relax your mind and give it all to me
'Cause you know and I know our love is strong enough
To weather the rain
To weather the snow
To weather the storm
To weather the rain
To weather the snow
To weather the storm

Often I see fear in your eyes
And sometimes I know, your heart is full of little arrows
But trust in me and no one can do you wrong
'Cause I know and you know our love is trong enough
To weather the rain
To weather the snow
To weather the storm
To weather the rain
To weather the snow
To weather the storm

To weather the rain
To weather the snow
To weather the storm
To weather the rain
To weather the snow
To weather the storm

-- Lamb, "Trans Fatty Acid"
Monday. I was going to try to do a CWA update each day, but I think I'll save it for a massive post like last time.

  • I got put on probation as an RA for being late to duty (I took a long route home to print out a reading for class, which I didn't actually read, in part because I was in a discussion about probation) and late to staff meeting once (because I was unlucky with one bus and the Skip took 10 minutes to go from Pearl St. to Baseline in construction). I was fairly chill about it. I was planning to get put on probation anyway to watch the Egg Drop, but we'll be talking about closing that day, so I should probably be there. Maybe I can get things to go quickly and get everyone to watch the drop. It never starts right at 2, anyway.
  • Today was officially a Colorado Schizophrenic Weather Day. It was rainy when I got up and biked over to the UMC. Sunny and quite warm on the ride back an hour and a half later, and on the consequent return to the Norlin Quad. At some point during the 2.5 following hours in Macky it started snowing wetly. It was dry for a while when I came back to campus, and then proceeded to snow profusely all over my bike and everything else. It's slicker and galoshes snow, though. This is annoying, but not unusual. I need to find my full-fingered biking gloves.
  • I heard from Kaleigh today that Matt Sturtz is getting married, scheduled for July 3rd, 2004. Those of you who know Matt probably have an interesting reaction to hearing this. I'm not quite sure what mine is. Those of you who don't know Matt will have to wait until some other time to learn why this is [humorous | shocking | odd | surprising | bewildering]. He has matured some since high school, of course, but it's hard to think of him as anyone other than the guy whistling loudly while swearing at some part of a computer system while eating McDonalds fries. He and Julie have been going out for a while now. They originally met on the Internet (it is Matt, remember). And he proposed under 70ft of water while scuba diving in Costa Rica. The webpage I linked is how he asked permission from her mom. I offered him my sincere (0|\|6%@7|_|1@7!0|\|$ and I wish him the best of luck and happiness. He's certainly done better romantically than many people expected he would.
  • I sent my résumé to a couple places; notably ITS. I think UnixOps would be a great learning/employment opportunity for me from an engineering standpoint. I'd like to get a job developing code, but strong sysadmin experience plus developing CARDFLOP* in my spare time may be an advantageous pair of experiences. My intuition is that sysadmin-type work is more stable (in terms of demand) than software engineering and it's harder to get hired in such a capacity without work experience. (The cost of mistakes as a sysadmin can be fairly disastrous. The cost of mistakes as a developer is several tedious hours debugging.)
  • I've been feeling slow and fairly peaceful lately, which is in part why I was late to duty. I'm able to be on time to CWA, but everything else is a wash. Maybe it's lack of sleep. Maybe it's just profound peace with the world.
  • As a precursor to the CWA, I saw Chomsky on Saturday night. I also went to Heaven on Friday before Audra's thesis defense party. If I don't talk about these later, bug me.
  • * I know I haven't discussed this here (or elsewhere). You'll need to wait.

Umm. I think I need to go lie down for a bit.

he even picked out a really nice ring... And he did it somewhere original, romantic and incredibly cool... I think I need to go get a new improbability readout from the McMillan heart of gold...
